The Course

This course is perfect for both first-timers and elite athletes, the Encinitas Half Marathon is 13.1 miles of unforgettable fun through America’s most quintessential surf town! To kick off the adventure, you and thousands of other racers will toe the line at the renowned Moonlight State Beach with scenic views of the Pacific Ocean. You’ll head straight to the historic Highway 101 and pass through the funky and whimsical community of Leucadia.

You’ll then head south to set your sights on Downtown Encinitas and its charming neighborhoods, zooming past famous landmarks like the Boathouses and Swami’s Temple. After popping back out onto the 101, you’ll cruise next to the ocean for seven beautiful, breathtaking miles all the way to downtown Solana Beach. Then it’s time to turn around at Loma Santa Fe and give it everything you’ve got back to an oceanfront finish at Moonlight State Beach! Cross the finish line and proudly wear your medal as we party with Rudy and Fitz, an indulgent breakfast, and goodies from our sponsors. You’ve just accomplished something extraordinary and it’s time to celebrate!

HILLS and CHALLENGES

This course has gently rolling hills with 1 short, steep hill about 40 yards long. This is the hill on Third Street going up to the Moonlight Beach parking lot. You’ll go down this hill shortly after the start and you’ll be tackling it with great success at mile 4.1. We will have marines there to “encourage” you as you run up this little beast of a hill.

You’ll find an easy, short hill going into Solana Beach and a slight incline heading north from Cardiff into Encinitas on Hwy 101.

Other than that, enjoy the BEAUTIFUL pacific ocean views, quaint little surf towns, public art, historic landmarks, the smell of the salty ocean air, and unique neighborhood of downtown Encinitas.
